Headmaster's Welcome
Jerri & Gary Herring |
Dear Parents,
Thank you for your interest in First Presbyterian Day School. The modernistic culture of the twenty-first century is having a vast influence on our children that is counter-productive to a Biblical life-style. From five-year-old kindergarten through the sixth grade, your child will spend more time in school each week day and be more influenced by a teacher and peers than at either home or church. For this reason, the choice of a Christian school is important in where a child spends his elementary years. “Train up a child in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
Spiritual growth should always be a high priority in the Christian school. FPDS prepares children to live faithfully and effectively according to God’s Word through the examples of mature Christian teachers who model the Christian life before their students. Its curriculum is taught in the context of a Biblical world view. Each grade has daily Bible classes and weekly chapel assemblies, and each day begins with class devotionals and a time of prayer.
Academically, we have been successful in preparing children for middle school and beyond. After leaving FPDS, our students consistently do well in all private and public schools in the Jackson Metro area. In 2010-11, fifty-five percent of our sixth-grade graduating class qualified for the Duke TIP Program. This means they scored in the 95th percentile or higher on their most recent achievement tests.
FPDS is undergirding our families by providing excellence in academics, the arts, physical education, sports, social behavior, and, most importantly, spiritual growth. Our objective is to prepare our students for future service in God’s kingdom in their homes, churches, and professions.
