APRIL 20 - 24: Reach Week 2020

What is the Reach 2020 initiative and why are we doing it?
Let’s start with the why. FPDS is committed to providing a safe and reliable environment for our students to learn and grow. Our current gym is no longer able to provide the space that our children need for activities like playing intramural basketball, participating in pep rallies, and attending physical education classes each day. Investing in this project signals your commitment to this school and its mission to plant seeds of Christlikeness while pursuing academic excellence for years to come.

Where will daily PE classes and recesses be held? Will the playground be safe for use?
PE and recess will be held on the playground in areas not taken up by construction. The areas that our students utilize will be separated from the construction area and will be completely safe for student use.

Where will PE classes and recesses be held in inclement weather?
FPDS is considering several types of temporary coverage for the playground area, which will allow PE and recess to continue during rainy weather.

Where will the fifth and sixth grade basketball program be held?
We are finalizing plans for practices, but the games will be held at Jackson Prep after school. Games will take place in January as in the past.

Where will the Under the Oaks summer program meet in the summers of 2020 and 2021?
Under the Oaks will still be held at FPDS during the summers of 2020 and 2021.

Where will construction vehicles and employees enter and exit?
Primary entry will be through an outside entrance off of Belhaven Street. As various stages of the work is complete, some workers may enter and exit through the area that is now the current gymnasium.

Will the school building continue to be secured at all times?
FPDS will continue to employ 24-hour security and coded entry for all guests to our campus.

Will the current Science Lab building remain?
The current plans do not interfere with access to the Science Lab for our students. There may be times of construction when we need to limit student access to that building, but we do not foresee that happening very often.

Will construction affect morning and afternoon carpool?
Our plan is for normal morning and afternoon carpool. There may be days when unanticipated construction traffic is present during those times.

As the construction process evolves, changes may need to be made. Updates will be added to this page as they become available.  Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to grow.
