Reflections

by Mindy Boyd

As the year quickly comes to an end, I cannot help but reflect on the blessings of this year and look to the changes that next year will bring. Someone once told me, “sometimes you have to look back in order to understand the things that lie ahead.”

Being new to the FPDS family, I had a lot to take in and a short amount of time to do so. August came, and I had to hit the ground running! In addition to the new job, I watched my daughter as she began her first year of “big girl school.” From wearing these two new hats, I have gained a unique perspective on how special FPDS really is!

Joining the staff as a certified academic language therapist, I knew that I had an important role, and God was telling me to be a voice and a light for the families He was placing in my path. God made it clear that while I was brought here to teach students how to read, my chief role was to minister to their hearts and be a beacon of hope for the parents who were on this journey with their children. This role has proven to be the biggest blessing in my life! As stated in Proverbs 16:9, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” It has been amazing to see how much bigger and better God’s plans have been for me!

In looking to next year, I am excited to continue God’s plan for my role here at the Day School. I will be gaining a new title as I step into the role of director of student services. Not only will I be a voice for the students I personally service each day, but now my reach will expand to many more students, parents, and teachers. I am very humbled to be given this wonderful opportunity and look forward to continuing God’s calling on my life.
