Spiritual Life

Spiritual life at FPDS begins with the understanding that God loves us and desires a relationship with us.

While faith begins at home and is nurtured at church, we recognize the important role that our Christian school community plays in our students’ faith journeys.

Our Christ-centered approach to education develops the whole child to know, love, and serve God. Faith is woven through chapels and also in science class discussions about the complexity of God’s creation. We understand art and music as reflections of our creator God.  We honor God with our bodies by promoting kinesthetic movement and pursuing excellence on the athletic field.  Most importantly, we focus on treating each other with care and respect as fellow image-bearers of Jesus Christ.

We are a community united for one purpose:  to bring honor and glory to God in all that we do.

Chapel

Each week our students attend a chapel service in the sanctuary with their grade levels, gathering together as a faith family. It is a sweet time for both students and teachers to worship together through prayer, singing, and studying God’s Word.

First Presbyterian Church pastors speak in chapel monthly, and Christians from around the community as well as missionaries serving the church worldwide are often guest speakers - a great opportunity to show our students how the Lord uses His people in various ways to impact the world for Christ!

Service Projects

Each year, FPDS adopts a ministry for families and students to support. The Day School will be involved in an ‘In Service’ project where all chapel offerings will be donated to an organization within our community.

________

In hopes of continuing a heart of service in our students, our sixth graders serve locally and abroad. Locally, our sixth graders visit and serve annually at The Mustard Seed and Mission First. Sixth graders also participate in Student Council and in various service opportunities within the school body. Through these avenues of service, our sixth grade class is prepared to serve God’s kingdom in their homes, communities, churches, and future professions.

Bible Classes

Since the school was founded in 1965, spiritual growth has always been a high priority at First Presbyterian Day School. Each day, teachers share daily devotionals and prayer time with students. Scripture memory and personal application of Biblical truths are part of daily instruction.

Students in grades first through sixth attend Bible class every day (except on Chapel day).
